| Which is better and more efficient, Column Still or Pot Still? |
Both types of stills can remove alcohol from the wash or mash, so the production efficiency is basically the same.
A Column Still can highly refine the distillate, producing a very high alcohol content distillate with very little "character" of the wash or mash. Column Still is a must for producing neutral spirits or vodkas.
A pot still produces a distillate with a much lower alcohol content, but with a corresponding increase in the level of "character". This is important for distilleries producing spirits such as whisky, tequila, and rum, etc., as the final product requires the properties of the base ingredients.
